Chinese New Year Preparations

On Monday we had a Chinese themed yoga session, we shared the Chinese Zodiac Story where the 12 animals of the zodiac had a swimming race.  Can you be a rat a tiger an ox, rabbit or friendly dragon! the children enjoyed being all the different animals and deciding how to move like them.
We enjoyed lots of splashing outside in the rain this week - trying to remember to put our wellies on first! Taking the babies for a rainy walk to the park and talking to the children about helping children that are smaller than us.
Tricky jack frost can to visit us and froze our arctic animals in a block of ice - we had some problem solving to do "how do we get the animals out of the ice?"
"I know! hit it with a fork"
Oh no that doesn't work! "Ah hot water!"
we poured on some hot water and noticed that our ice block was getting smaller "more hot water"
until yeah! the animals are free - how exciting and what great team work!
Forest Club - We had lots of adventures at forest club this week exploring our swings and pulleys, lots of den play and playing stickman, stick lady love and their stick children three again carrying on with the theme about looking after those smaller than us.  We also enjoyed building a bridge of sticks to try to get across the water without getting wet! Although a few of them enjoyed falling off very much and getting in the deep water which whoops went over some of our wellies! lots of mud slides too and sliding on our bottoms and getting really muddy was loads of fun!
Sugar intake App - we have been discussing with the children about healthy eating and not eating too much sugar! the link in the newsletter had an app which we have downloaded and gives us a reminder of how easy it is to consume hidden sugars.  For example a bottle of tomato sauce scanned contained 53 cubes of sugar!  Other items which are advertised as 100% natural ingredients still had 5 cubes of sugar.  Give it a go yourselves and let us know your findings.
