Fun with Painting

Weekly Makaton Signs – Hello, Thank You, Good.

Painting – Mixing, mark making and giving stories to the marks they make “look at the colours” “I'm making a farm with lots of grass” “my painting is sunny” “this is a pig rolling in the mud” “I'm making a butterfly”. Telling us who the painting is for. “This is for me, mine is for daddy”. Lots of conversation whilst painting – talking about colours, what other colours they make, discussing how they can make a different colour, which colours to mix. Also encourages good large and fine motor skills. Wow so much gained from painting and art – so much more than just the end result!

Scooters and ramps – helping to create a course for the scooters to follow, deciding which way round to go and telling others who join in the right way to go. Scooting fast and scooting slow. Slowing down when going over the ramp. “We need to go slow over this, or we might fall”. The children using their own judgement as to whether to go fast or slow taking risks, helping them in gaining confidence to try new things.

Wednesday – Sing up CD. Listening to and following the actions. Promoting good hand and eye co-ordination, thinking about spacial awareness, being in a big enough space to carry out your moves without bumping into someone or something else. Lots of large motor skills involved and thinking about what moves you can make your body do. Above all, enjoying music and movement and how much fun you can have with it and others.

Thursday – We had a nice long walk in our wooded area, discovering muddy slopes and finding paths through to our den. We made another den using lots of teamwork carrying sticks and branches. We played our outdoor Fish, Chips and Peas game which is Log, Apple, Bushtree. This helps practice our listening skills and being careful not to bump into our friends.
