Swings/Sand and keeping warm

Weekly Makaton Signs: Thank you, Hello and Good.

Using the natural resources - some children were using feathers, fir cones, pebbles, sea shells, cow horns etc. to create fires to keep us warm, then it was time to make some biscuits to heat up on the fire.
Good imagination and lots of chatter about how to keep warm and stay safe.  What things could be used to keep the fire going such as dry things, but wet things are not good!

Obstacle course outside - the beam was up quite high, some children were very cautious about having a go at walking across, but they gave it a go and succeeded, then tried again and again! feeling more confident and getting quicker each time.  Well done:)

Thursday Forest Club - Making swings with tyres and sticks for seats and pulley systems with rope, working out how to get things to move from the top to the bottom.  When doing it with a hat it was easy and went up quickly, but when trying to get a tyre up it worked better with more people helping to pull up.  Lots of great team work and conversation discussing how to make it work!  Others were trying to make a damn using leaves and sticks, trying to stop the water coming further down the path which may have stopped us getting to our swings.

Sand pit - this has been indoors this week as it has been a little too cold for outside.  To begin with the sand was a bit damp so made some good sand castles, but as the week went on it was dry and so lots of pouring - but now my castle keeps collapsing.  If anyone has any small plastic, clear if possible pots/jars with lids (actimel/yoghurt drink size) these would be great, they are fantastic in encouraging fine motor skills, such as pouring sand and water, and putting on and taking off the lids.
