Welcome to our website!
We are a small, friendly preschool in the village of Stanton Drew, which is in the Chew Valley, just south of Bristol. We are based in the Parish Hall at the centre of the village, and we recently celebrated our 40th year as a preschool serving the local community. We offer a fun and caring environment where children can play and learn together. Our staff are very well qualified and give an excellent level of care to the children. Our setting is bright, spacious and full of exciting educational resources. We offer a high ratio of staff to children, with typically at least one adult for each five children. We are a voluntary run setting, which means that we are over seen by a committee made up of parents and volunteers. We are also a registered charity (Charity Number 1055041).
We open five days a week during school term times, as follows:
Monday - 9.15am - 2.45pm
Tuesday - 9.15am - 2.45pm
Wednesday - 9.15am - 2.45pm

Children can attend for the morning session (9.15 - 12.00), morning session plus lunch (9.15 - 1.00), morning, lunch and afternoon (9.15 - 2.45), lunch and afternoon (12 - 2.45) or just afternoon (1 - 2.45). Thursdays are Forest School sessions, were we go to our Forest School area and play and explore with natural resources.
During the preschool day, the children can choose to play with a range of toys and resources. They can also take part in lots of different activities, with an emphasis on the children choosing where they want to play, and what they'd like to play with. Older children are given some adult directed activities to develop their literacy skills. Our setting is 'free flow', which means that the children can move freely between indoors and outdoors as they wish. The activities we offer are based on the Early Years Foundation Stage, the statutory curriculum for children in this age group. At snack time, we offer children organic, locally grown foods, including fruits, vegetables and cheese. We also grow our own crops together with the children in our lovely preschool garden, for instance strawberries and peas.
We can offer a place to your child from two years onwards, subject to availability. We offer the universal Nursery Education Grant (15 funded hours a week) for children from the term following their third birthday, or their second birthday if you qualify for two year funding.
30 Hour free childcare:
As well as offering the universal grant of 15 free hours to all parents, we also offer the extended offer, available to working parents for the hours that we are open, 24 hours per week.
