In our yoga session this week we practised our moves to Little Red Riding Hood. The children showed good listening skills with some fabulous stretches and bends. How will we hide the wolf's ears? How will we hide the wolf's nose?
We have been busy practising putting on our own coats and role play clothes. This was much more fun than waiting for the adults to help them do it! We went for a lovely walk to a child's house and had great fun throwing balls at the trees to knock down the apples and plums. We had a game of "Please Mr Crocodile" before we went back to preschool for snacks. On Wednesday the children did some lovely baking and made blackberry cakes for our café which was held in the afternoon. The café was well supported by parents/grandparents and we raised over £70 which is FANTSATIC. Thank you to everyone who donated cakes and came along to support this event. The amount raised will go towards waterproof clothing for our Thursday afternoon session. In craft, the children are enjoying using the glue this week. They've enjoyed making pictures using cereal to make a picture frame and they have showed some great creative flair. Some children enjoyed a small group activity of making plum jam with the plums we collected from our walk earlier on in the week. They enjoyed chopping the plums, removing the stones, measuring the water and weighing the sugar then smelling the mixture cooking on the stove. On Thursday afternoon we walked to the orchard and found lots of different colours from things around us. We played "1,2,3 Where Are You". We also collected apples and sang "5 Fat Apples Sitting on a Fence.

The children haven been showing a keen interest in making all sorts of Gromit pictures. They've been gluing and sticking all the different types of materials they could find.
In Yoga we had the story of 3 Little Pigs. There was plenty of stretching up high and curling down small and then individually the children showed each other a move which they had learnt during the story. We had an obstacle course. The children had to follow arrows to know which way to go. They had to balance, jump and run - doing all of this whilst watching out for the crocodiles in the pond! Bertha the Bus - the children have been working out phonically the beginning letter of objects inside our Preschool. We try to work on one letter at a time. Potato printing was hugely popular. The children dug the potatoes from the allotment last Thursday afternoon and were soon cutting them up (under supervision) to make lovely shapes. They then enjoyed putting them in the paint to make lovely creative pictures. Painting on the easel was great fun for a number of children. They enjoyed mixing the colours and seeing what new colours/shades they could make. The garage and cars were very popular and the children have been enjoying racing the cars down the pipes to the finish line and then measuring with a tape measurer how far the cars have gone - excellent number recognition and estimating. On Wednesday afternoon the children did their familiar Sing Up CD and then we did some body percussion learning 3 to 4 different beat patterns using their bodies. They enjoyed choosing the beats - we had to tap our legs, tap our heads, clap our hands and then stamp our feet - all of this repeated to them in a pattern. For our Thursday afternoon outdoor session - it was rather wet, but that didn't stop us - we still ventured outside. A huge thank you for the Sainsbury vouchers - we now have our new balance beams and cress seeds. Hello and a BIG welcome back to everyone and a BIG welcome to all our new parents and children.
This week we have been busy settling back into routines. Lots of children left for school last term so our sessions are a little quieter which is great as it enables us to spend more quality time with the children. For Yoga this week we did the story 3 Billy Goats Gruff. The children have been busy learning and remembering new moves. This is great fun and lots of smiles could be seen on the children's faces. Its lovely to watch the children building old relationships again and making new ones with the new children. |
