For our Yoga this week we were witches going to a party. We had nice tall hats, broomsticks. What can we wear? What can we put in our sandwiches? - slugs, snails, frogs legs and cats! Lets fly through the forest, past the wolf, over the rickety bridge and lets cast a magic spell. Ask your child what they liked about the adventure.
We made a puppet show. The children loved putting on strange voices and making up stories. There was lots of crocodiles going to eat them all up! The Food Lotto game was very popular. The children looked at their cards and looked to see what foods they needed to find. They then put their hand in the bag to see if they could find the food they needed. The children also enjoyed lots of singing and rhymes this week. They had thought of plenty of actions and performed them in patterns. For example, clap your hands and stamp your feet. There was lots of kindness being shown outside this week with the children thinking of how they can be helpful towards each other. There was lots of children taking it in turns to push each other on the tractor - what great team work. A stage was made this week and we had the musical instruments out. The children had a lovely loud time making music with their friends. Some of the children really enjoyed the singing whilst the others played the tunes. There was lots of creative work this week as the children had a large piece of material and the children drove the small construction vehicles through the paint and onto the material. They loved looking at the different patterns each vehicle made with their tracks. We did some lovely pumpkin carving - but then a wicked witch took them from the trolley! We had to go on a hunt to find them!

Rapunzel was our story for yoga this week. There was lots of good listening for the new moves - with our long hair and climbing up and down. Oh and don't forget the Prince and the bad witch.
The instruments have been very popular. The children loved listening to the sounds they made. They made sure they knew what was a drum, tambourine and a rain maker. Then we hid and made the sound. Can you guess what it is? This shows fantastic listening skills and recognition. We've had lots of fun splashing in puddles - how big a splash can we make? The children put on the water proof coats, trousers and wellies. We changed the colour of the puddles to yellow and all the children worked hard to wash and brush the paint outside taking in turns using the brush and hosepipe! There was lots of name games, circle games, to help us learn each others names. The children also played a game where they could only speak when they had the ball - they loved this. On Wednesday afternoon we did the Sing Up CD - there was lots of action songs and lots of instructions to follow familiar songs - 10 fat sausages. There was lots of under, over, through and in movements which the children loved. On Thursday afternoon we visited the outdoor area. All the children found sticks and had to decide what to make with them. Some great ideas were expressed by the children, such as swords, scarecrows and hobby horses. These were all the children's ideas and this allowed them to be hugely creative. Our story this week for Yoga was the Hungry Caterpillar. There was lots of counting different shapes to create with our bodies and balancing! We had our own ideas of what to put in a sandwich.
We played Sound Lotto - there was lots of good listening skills for the different sounds of the animals and then seeing if that animal is on your card. Food Lotto was also played. We talked about the different food groups fats, meats, dairy, sweets, breads - then putting your hand in the bag and trying to pull out one that was on our own card. We looked at the different shapes of the foods and trying to feel in the bag for that shape. We had Babies Day Out - lots of ways to care for your baby - keep them warm, feed them, handle them gently. On No! They need changing. Lets go for a walk and wrap them up warm. The children have been busy acting out the story "We're going on a Bear Hunt". We've been in the long swishy swashy grass, through the squelchy mud, through the splish, splash water, through the stumble trip forest, through a snow storm "Whoooo" then through a cave until we met "A Bear". The children really enjoyed telling this story and acting it out and have now befriended the bear because they have decided its a friendly bear and he just wanted friends to play with! Lovely creative pictures are coming home, the children loved playing with the bingo stampers. They have created some very bright, colourful pictures. Some children discovered that by placing another piece of paper on top of their drawing then taking the top one off you get 2 pictures the same. Come and take a look at our giant apple tree display in our book corner unit. The children have loved working todether to create a big realistic masterpiece. For our Yoga session last week we did some fun positions to Goldilocks and the Three Bears. There was lots of counting to 3 - but how could we show "3" using our fingers?? 1 on this hand and 2 on the other? How did Baby Bear feel sad/happy/angry? How did Goldilocks feel?
We played lots of football this week with some fantastic shooting of the ball into the box. This showed some great hand to eye co-ordination. When the goals were scored they all cheered and ran around in celebration of their achievement(s). Lots of fun was had by the children looking at the globe - firstly working out how to turn it on and off and how to make it work. They loved looking at the different animals in different places - cold/hot/wet countries. Big fur coats needed for cold places and they must be cold because of the white! Hot places - they were brown and green places had lots of rain. The sand outside was very popular and lots of laughter could be heard from the children enjoying touching and pouring the sand. We talked about hibernation - how animals gather their food and keep themselves warm with sticks/leaves/mosses - teasle headgehogs were made. There was lots of singing. A group of children requested another song after the others had finished "old MacDonald" - the children like making up the noises for the animals. Using the paints, the children made apple trees with apple printing. Lots of working together could be seen. Look out for our display this week. |
