Puxton Park & Sports

For Yoga this week we were learning how our bodies work.  We discussed different part of our bodies and what they do.  We practised different yoga moves and found out what happens to our bodies when we run up and down.

The children have been having fun with bubbles.  We have been blowing lots of bubbles - quickly/slowly, but if too gentle they do not work!  Blowing gently and slowly got more bubbles - if too quick only a few bubbles.  They float because they are light but pop on sharp things.

We have lots of budding artists in our pre-school with the children doing some beautiful paintings for "my mummy".

We have been talking about differences in people and the children drew some fabulous pictures just using their feet and mouths.  Come and take a look or have a go with your children at home - it really is quite tricky!

We have been practising lots of team games for our sports day.  This has been a huge success and the children are really enjoying some of our races and are really helpful and encouraging to their team mates.

We have also been practising for our show of 'Handa's Surprise'.  We are sure the children will be coming home singing new songs in preparation for it.  This will be held on Tuesday 9 July at 9.30am.  If parents could stay first thing and watch it, it would be great, then we will return to our normal session after.

On Wednesday we went on our trip to Puxton Park.  We had glorious sunshine and the children enjoyed playing outside, seeing the animals and the loved the soft play.  We enjoyed a picnic together before heading back on the coach to preschool.

On Thursday afternoon we went to the allotment.  We picked some strawberries for snacks, mint, broad beans and chocolate mint!  We had a lovely chat about how they felt and what they smelt of.  We saw emerald bugs on the mind which were a beautiful bright colour.  We played in the dried mud - which was fairy dust!

The children have been learning this story and we would like to show you what they have learnt.  We aim to show you at our end of term get together.  More information will follow nearer the time.

To all the parents of children who are starting Pensford school in September have been invited to their sports day.  It will be held on Tuesday 25 June 1.30pm at the memorial hall.  They will look forward to seeing as many of their new starters as possible.

The children have had lots of fun doing team games.  The children especially enjoyed our game "Welly Wanging" and the "Teddy Relay" was also very popular.

The café went well on Wednesday afternoon.  A big thank you to everyone who supported us.  We raised £62.50 and this will go towards the cost of the coach for our school trip and means that anyone attending now only has to pay £2 per seat.

On Thursday afternoon, the children went to the allotment and picked potatoes radishes and lettuce.  The children discovered a dead mole and a deep discussion was held by the children that he died of old age!  The children also enjoyed playing Head Shoulder Knees and Toes.  They then went back through the orchard to see all the lovely apples growing and then we all headed back to preschool.

Please can you ensure your child comes in long trousers for the Thursday afternoon session.

On Friday morning, some children went to Stanton Drew school for another visit - they had a lovely story.

Fathers Day Surprises

The children have been busy this week making their Fathers day surprises.

We have had bubbles in the water so they can see where they go.  Transporting water and how we move water from one tub to another  without carrying it  - lots of bowls and tubes & things.  There was good thinking done with lots of problem solving.

For Yoga this week we had the story Jack and the Beanstalk.  There was lots of tall stretches and curling up small.

Some teachers from primary schools came in to visit and to say "Hello".

On Wednesday afternoon the children were preparing for sports day.  There was lots of team games, including, balls over head and passing to each other, balls through legs creating a tunnel, side pass with ball.  The children really enjoyed this and lots of laughter could be heard.  Great physical development!

On Thursday, we had a trip to Stanton Drew Primary School for their sports day.  All the children loved it and enjoyed cheering on all the other children.  A few participated in the pre-school race.  In the afternoon, we went into a field with the parachute and played games as children were tired from the walk to the school in the morning.

On Friday morning we visited Stanton Dew school as part of the transition to school.  The children listened to a lovely story.

On Wednesday 19th June we are having a Café including ice-cream!!  All
profits to go towards the coach for our trip.

BBQs and Vikings

For our Yoga we are continuing the story of the Vikings.  The children re-visited the moves and loved to show each other in a large group.

The children have been having lots of fun with water and learning about "sinking" and "floating".  They had to guess which items would float and which would sink, and then they had to record their findings.

We put the kitchen outside and the children enjoyed a BBQ with the children cooking the burgers, rolls and baguettes.  What budding chefs we have!

We also had the diggers and dumpers outside in the mud and stone pit.  The children played acting out builders and had their own builders yard.  They moved the mud to and from areas, with the large construction vehicles.  There was a big crowd of children and they all played beautifully together and worked well as a team.

We have also been making lots of mud pies.  We got the children to find items to put in the pie and let them mix and squelch it up - now who wants to try some!!!!

We have started work on our Fathers Day surprises.  They are looking really bright and colourful - but don't tell Dad.

We had lots of handsome boys and beautiful girls on Thursday for their photo shoot.  It went really well.  Look out for the funny group photo!

On Thursday afternoon we again made the most of the weather and went out to enjoy a relaxing picnic under the trees. We played Simon says and enjoyed the Ten seeds story especially the mischievious mole. We made some pictures using the things around us and finished with hide and seek.

Annual trip to Puxton Park on Wednesday 26 June.  More details to follow.

School visits and our annual trip is fast approaching.  More details to follow.
